In a papermaking (1) process, the pressure exerted on a fluid seal (3) between a drum and an impermeable belt (2) is adjusted in accordance with the power required to advance the impermeable belt; and/or the drive impermeable belt moment; and/or in accordance with the fluid leak rate through the gap between the seal and belt; and/or in accordance with the fluid pressure within the pressure chamber. In the papermaking the seal (3) is located between a fixed fluid-filled chamber (6) and an endless impermeable belt (2). The variable-pressure seal assists in regulating the pressure within in the chamber. The impermeable belt moves through the chamber supported by a rotating drum (4), while the fiber web (1) advances together with one or more water take-up belts (10, 11) between the impermeable belt (2) and drum (4). In a further embodiment, pressure in the chamber and on the seal is reduced should the impermeable belt come to a standstill.

Die Erfindung betrifft eine Anordnung zur Abdichtung eines mit einem Fluid gefüllten, stationären Druckraumes (6) gegenüber einem endlos umlaufenden, impermeablen Band (2) einer Maschine zur Herstellung und/oder Veredlung einer Papier-, Karton-, Tissue- oder einer anderen Faserstoffbahn (1) mit Hilfe wenigstens einer Dichtung (3) des Druckraumes (6), deren zum Band (2) gerichtete Anpressung veränderbar ist, wobei das Band (2) von dem Druckraum (6) gegen ein mitlaufendes Stützelement (4) gedrückt wird und die Faserstoffbahn (1) allein oder gemeinsam mit einem oder mehreren Funktionsbändern (10,11) zwischen dem Band (2) und dem Stützelement (4) läuft. Dabei soll die Abdichtung bei möglichst geringer Leckage und Verschleiß dadurch verbessert werden, dass die Steuerung des Anpressdruckes der Dichtung (3) in Abhängigkeit von der, in das Band (2) eingeleiteten Antriebsleistung und/oder des Antriebsmomentes und/oder in Abhängigkeit von der Leckage des Fluids durch den Spalt zwischen Dichtung (3) und Band (2) und/oder in Abhängigkeit von dem Druck des Fluids in dem Druckraum (6) erfolgt.
