Abstract (en)

Under the method for controlling accesses to a shared medium between a central communication unit (OLT) and several peripheral communication units (ONU1...3), there are status information (ONU1...3report) being sent from the peripheral communication units (ONU1...3) to the central communication unit (OLT), whereby the status information (ONU1...3report) are representing each information to be sent from a peripheral communication unit (ONU1...3) over the shared medium and/or requests for accessing the shared medium. The status information (ONU1...3report) being sent from the peripheral communication units during a given time interval (cycleN) are being collected and evaluated centrally. At least one control message (ONU1...3grant) is generated dependent to the result of the evaluation, the at least one control message (ONU1...3grant) representing information for controlling the accesses of the peripheral communication units (ONU1...3) to the shared medium. The control message (ONU1...3grant) is being sent to the peripheral communication units (ONU1...3).
