[origin: EP1645655A1] A component e.g. a gas turbine engine compressor blade has a thermal barrier coating incorporating a network of thermal expansion seams. The seam pattern is e.g. rectangular, hexagonal. The thermal barrier coating is a porous ceramic material applied using a bonding agent to a metal substrate. The metal substrate is applied to the blade root zone by a thermal spray or a gas separation phase under a wire screen (9). Also claimed is a suitable turbine blade.
