[origin: EP1798172A2] There are two unwinding positions where the web (6, 14) is taken from the roll (3, 4) in succession. The web is unwound by first and second drives successively, in these positions. The first drive has greater torque than the second. The first drive comprises a motor connected through a gear to the roll. The second drive enables greater speed than the first. Between the positions, equipment for suction, parting and/or splicing (7, 16) the web is provided. The two unwinding positions are arranged in succession, in the running direction of the web. An independent claim is included for the corresponding method.
