Abstract (en)

There is provided a fluorescent lamp (10) comprising a glass tube (1) filled therein with an electric discharging medium, a protective film (4) formed on an inner surface of the glass tube, a phosphor layer (5) formed on an upper surface of the protective film, and electrode means (3) attached to the glass tube. The protective film comprises, as a major component, SiO 2 fine particles exhibiting not more than 0.3 at a temperature of 600°C in integrated value of absorbance spectrum of hydroxyl group absorption band in wave number ranging from 2500-3800 cm -1 as measured by infrared spectroscopy on the assumption that the integrated value of absorbance spectrum of hydroxyl group absorption band at a temperature of 100°C is 1. Alternatively, the SiO 2 fine particles contain carbon at a content confined within the range of 0.09% to 0.3% by mass. Alternatively, the SiO 2 fine particles exhibit a spectrum having peaks at a wave number ranging from 590 to 610 cm -1 and at a wave number ranging from 490 to 500 cm -1 as measured by laser Raman spectroscopy and at a temperature of 700°C.
