[origin: WO2006048035A1] The invention relates to a method and a device for spinning and texturing a synthetic thread. According to the invention, a plurality of filaments is extruded from a polymer melt and said filaments are combined to form a filament bundle. The latter is compressed under the action of heat to produce a thread plug, which is cooled and drawn to form a curled thread. After the unravelling of the thread plug, a drawing tension is created in the thread. To ensure that the drawing tension is built up with the least possible damage to the thread, the latter is guided through a braking air stream, which acts essentially in a transverse direction to the direction of travel of the thread and by means of which the thread is held against a sliding surface. The device is equipped with an element for generating a braking air stream that is located inside a braking device and is oriented in an essentially transverse direction to the direction of travel of the thread, in addition to an element for guiding the thread transversally to the braking air stream.
