[origin: EP1808237A1] The device has an application head (5) with an application roller (6) applying coating substances on a metal strip (M) passing through the device. A supporting roller (9) is arranged on a side of the strip opposite to the application head. The application head works on the strip either in a functional position of the device in a support region of the supporting roller or another functional position of the device in a free strip region within the support region of the supporting roller. A tensioning roller is attached to the supporting roller.
