Abstract (en)
[origin: WO2006048292A1] The invention relates to scanning devices (100; 200) for scanning barcodes (120; 220) that have been applied to documents (110; 210). Said devices comprise a respective reflector assembly (140, 150, 160, 170; 141, 151, 161; 152, 162; 165; 142, 143), which comprises either a variable reflection element (140; 141; 142, 143) or an optical fibre system (250, 251, 252; 253, 255; 254), which is used to deflect or absorb the beam path of electromagnetic radiation that is emitted from a radiation source (130) or an illumination device (230, 231; 232, 233) on the document plane along a line that is essentially perpendicular to the feed direction of the document (110; 210) and to route said radiation to a detector (280). The combination of the feed displacement and the line-by-line scanning of the document (110; 210) along the various measurement tracks achieved by the repeated deflection of the beam path using the variable reflection element (140; 141; 142, 143) and the repeated sequential routing of the scanning beam through the optical fibre system (250, 251, 252; 253, 255; 254) enables the production of cost-effective, compact scanning devices (100; 200), as there is no need for redundant radiation sources (130; 230) and detectors (180; 280).
