A q-axis voltage command value (V q * ) is generated in a proportioned amount to an end-to-end voltage (V dc ) of a smoothing capacitor (4). A d-axis current command value (I d * ) is set to zero, and a d-axis voltage command value (V d * ) is generated based thereon. A pulse width modulator (605) performs pulse width modulation based on the q-axis voltage command value (V q * ) and the d-axis voltage command value (V d * ), and generates a signal that controls switching of a pulse width modulation converter (3).
