Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2006050546A1] The invention relates to a method and device for operating a filter arrangement for removing soot particles from a flow of exhaust gas. According to the invention, the flow of exhaust gas is led through channels (20) of a ceramic body (1), these channels being open on both sides and extending in a longitudinal direction of the ceramic body (1), and on electrodes (5, 6), which extend parallel to the channels (20), a voltage is applied to the ceramic body (1) in order to generate an electric field inside the channels (20) of the ceramic body (1), this electrical field being oriented transversal to the axis of the channels (20). Before introducing the flow of exhaust gas into the channels (20) of the ceramic body (1), the soot particles are charged with the aid of another electrode arrangement (29, 30). The invention provides that the voltage applied to the electrodes (5, 6) that are assigned to the ceramic body (1) consists of unipolar voltage pulses having a pulse duration of less than 20µs each time.
