[origin: WO2006045878A1] The invention relates to a method and a system for sorting an object (2) equipped with identifier data, the system comprising a digitalised sorting rack (10) including a plurality of delivery bins (11) having connected guide means (13, 15), which are connected to a computer controller unit (30) and a database (60) provided with sorting data communicating with the computer. The system comprises an identification unit (20), which is connected to the computer controller unit (30) and the database (60) provided with sorting data communicating with the computer for reading the identifier data. The identification unit comprises reading means (21, 22) for reading the at least partial identifier data of the object, processing means (30, 70, 80) for complementing the read partial identifier data to corrected identifier data, and comparison means (30, 70, 80) for comparing the corrected identifier data with sorting data stored in the database, on the basis of which said guide means guide the sorting of the object. In the system of the invention, sorting of the object into the rack and collection of the object from the rack are functions that can be selected independently.
