The hospital bed, with a height-adjustable frame on wheels, has a brake handle (36) to be moved between braked (42) and release (40) settings. When the bed is lowered (52) to the lowest position, a bed section (20,24) automatically trips the brake handle into the braked setting, where a brake component presses against the floor (50).

Das Bett, insbesondere Kranken- oder Pflegebett ist versehen mit einem höhenverstellbaren Gestell (12) zur Abstützung auf einem Untergrund (50), einer Feststellbremse (34) mit einem zwischen einer Bremsstellung (42) und einer Freigabestellung (40) bewegbaren, mit der Hand oder dem Fuß betätigbaren Betätigungsorgan (36) und mindestens einem Bremselement (38), das in der Bremsstellung (42) des Betätigungsorgans (36) gegen den Untergrund (50) gedrückt und in der Freigabestellung (40) des Betätigungsorgans (36) vom Untergrund (50) beabstandet ist. Das Betätigungsorgan (36) ist bei Erreichen der niedrigsten Stellung des Gestells (12) von einem Element (20,24) desselben automatisch in die Bremsstellung (42) überführbar.
