Abstract (en)
[origin: WO2006061375A1] The aim of the invention is to be able to more securely quench an arc with simple means when switching off a switching device. Said aim is achieved by disposing a resistor mechanism (14) whose resistance increases as the temperature rises, between a stationary contact (1) and a movable contact (2). In case of an arc, the current runs from the movable contact (2) to the stationary contact (1) via the resistor mechanism (14), or vice versa. The resistor (14) heats up with the aid of the current flow, whereby the resistance value increases, too, such that the voltage stress of the contact gap decreases and the arc is easier to quench.
