[origin: WO2006061197A1] Disclosed is a method for milking an animal by means of a milking apparatus comprising at least one milking cup (4) which is provided with a pulsation chamber (14) and an interior space (10) for accommodating the teat (34) of an animal that is to be milked. The pulsation chamber (14) is separated from the interior space (10) by a teat rubber (8) and can be connected to a vacuum source. The difference in pressure between the interior space (10) and the pulsation chamber (14) is controlled in pulsation cycles, a pulsation cycle encompassing at least one relief phase and at least one suction phase. The difference in pressure is controlled such that there is contact between the teat rubber (8) and the sides of the teat during a substantial portion of the suction phase.
