[origin: WO2006054124A1] A storage system comprising a support structure, horizontally movable support units for carrying units to be stored, said support units being arranged on the support structure, and transferring elements for moving the support units. The support structure comprises modules (40) capable of accommodating and transferring support units, said modules (40) having centrally controlled transferring elements (34) enabling bidirectional moving of the support units in two horizontal directions being perpendicular to each other. Preferably, the storage system may have more than one storey and at least one module (40) is suitable to enable a vertical moving of the support unit located thereon.
