[origin: WO2006058369A1] A method for reversing electrode polarity in an electrolytic cell includes the steps of isolating electrodes of the cell from electrical charges applied thereto, effecting a controlled discharge to a predetermined value of residual charge carried on said electrodes, reversing the polarity of the applied electrical charge and then reapplying said electrical charge whereby the direction of current flow between electrodes is reversed. Suitably, the controlled discharge is effected by interrupting current flow from residual charges in said electrodes before a complete discharge occurs.
