Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2006069865A1] The invention relates to a fuel injector (10) comprising an injector body (12) and a fuel inlet (30). The fuel injector (10) is connected to a high-pressure fuel source (80) outside the injector body (12) and is provided with an actuator (14). Said actuator (14) is accommodated in a hollow space (84) from which a high-pressure inlet (30) extends to an injection valve member (46). Fuel is injected into a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine in accordance with the pressure prevailing in the first hydraulic chamber (24) when the injection valve member (46) is lifted from a seat (64). The actuator (14) directly impinges a piston (20) which is embodied in a staggered manner, delimits the first hydraulic chamber (24), and actuates a control piston (36). The injection valve member (46) is guided within the control piston (36).
