Abstract (en)
[origin: EP1832240A2] An atherectomy catheter (1) includes an outer tube (2); an inner tube (3) which is inserted into the outer tube (2) rotatably about an axis thereof and axially movably; a removing member (5) fixed to a distal portion of the inner tube (3) and accommodated in the outer tube (2) to drill and remove an occlusive material which stenoses or occludes a lumen of a blood vessel; and a guide member (6) mounted on the inner tube (3) in penetration therethrough so that the guide member (6) functions as the axis of the inner tube (3) when the inner tube (3) rotates. The removing member (5) has a developed state in which a distal end of the removing member (5) unfolds when the removing member (5) is projected from a distal portion of the outer tube (2) and radially expands owing to an elastic restoring force thereof, and the removing member (5) can drill said occlusive material in the developed state by rotating about the guide member (6) functioning as an axis of said removing member and moving the removing member (5) toward a distal end of the atherectomy catheter (1).
