[origin: WO2006074880A1] The invention relates to a bending device for long workpieces, especially pipes, for forming a bend (55) extending between two bend end points (A, B), on a longitudinal position (X) of a workpiece (1), at a nominal distance (L) from a reference point (P). Said bending device comprises a bending segment (3) that can be rotated about a bending axis (3), one of the two bend end points (A, B) being positioned on the 0 mark of the bending segment, as a bend starting point (29), before the beginning of the bending process. According to the invention, the device comprises a length measuring instrument (23) provided with at least one application point (25, 27) for the application of the workpiece (1) with the longitudinal position thereof (X), and for automatically positioning the bending starting point (29) of the workpiece (1) in the correct position on the 0 mark of the bending segment (3) when the workpiece (1) is applied to the application point (25, 27) of the length measuring instrument (23).
