[origin: WO2006043261A1] An apparatus for emptying bags (14, 102, 192, 240) consisting of a gripping subunit (12, 90, 196, 242) employing a gripper, a bag slitting and emptying device (180, 202), a controller (220) and an optional container (194) for receiving bags debris. The gripper consists of a plurality of gripping elements (44, 46, 63, 72, 74, 76, 100) arranged in two arrays and a weighing means for weighin bags content. The gripping unit lifts the gripped bags and carries them to the bag slitting and emptying device. The emptying module includes a plurality of rotary blades (94, 162, 194) and rods aligned such the bags are slit and immediately emptied. A controller means optionally controls and integrates the activity of the various sub-systems.
