Abstract (en)
[origin: WO2006071928A2] A search query is submitted to an information source associated with a category of the query. The category of the query is indicated by a query ontology that relates queries to categories. Expert domains for a query category, representing domains from which a high percentage of search results for queries of the query category are retrieved, may be established using a base statistical model. Search results are assigned scores and may be sorted or filtered based on the assigned scores. The assigned score is based on a presence, position, and form of the query within a surrogate representation of the search result. In a filtering example, pairs of search results may be examined to identify significant drops in quality (e.g., disparate assigned scores) between the search results. Search results with scores that are lower than a lower ranked search result of the pair of search results may be eliminated.
