[origin: EP1841019A1] The crimping unit has a sensor (5) provided at drive modules (1) adjacent to a sensor (2) for identifying of crimping modules (3), which are inserted into the drive modules. A processing unit (4) is provided for evaluating actual data, which are provided by the sensors of the drive modules. The processing unit is connected with input/output switches (6) of the drive modules in a signal conducting manner, and is adapted for operating the input/output switches.
