Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2006079569A1] The invention is characterized in that enabling elements or modules are introduced into a production process, i.e. into products, machines, and/or conveying systems, as autonomous components that are provided with specific capabilities and are operated in a peer-to-peer-based communication and service infrastructure. Said capabilities consist of the fact that said autonomous components can write on their own, reconfigure themselves, and recover from a malfunction on their own while being set up automatically. Said capabilities can be packed into a single functional block which can be added to each component of the production process, e.g. production machines, a monitoring unit, conveying units, and artifacts, in order to allow the entire process to be adjusted promptly. An article that is to be processed is represented by an associated workstation in the form of a proxy computer, for example, which supplies data on how the respective article can be processed and/or which intervenes in the industrial process per se by reconfiguring at least one workstation.
