[origin: WO2006064209A1] A device for detecting an electrical power supply failure comprises a plurality of electrical connectors for connecting the device between an electrical power supply and an electrical load, and a threshold monitor for detecting an electrical current and/or voltage from the power supply. The threshold monitor, which may be a comparator, is arranged to distinguish between: (a) a current and/or voltage having a magnitude greater than a predetermined magnitude, thereby indicating the presence of a current and/or voltage powering the load, or indicating the presence of a residual current and/or voltage from the supply when the load is not in use; and (b) a lack of a current and/or voltage having a magnitude greater than the predetermined magnitude, thereby indicating a failure in the power supply.
