Abstract (en)
[origin: EP1843645A2] The circuit has a series circuit (70,11) with a controllable switching mechanism (70) connected in parallel with the lamp (3), an arrangement for determining the degree of asymmetry of the lamp operating voltage and a controller (50) for short-circuiting the lamp by driving the switching mechanism in response to the detected asymmetry. An independent claim is also included for a method of operating a high pressure gas discharge lamp.
