[origin: WO2006076979A1] A tray (1) swivelably mounted in an automatic ice preparation device comprises a plurality of compartments (4) that are disposed in a number of rows and separated from each other by partitions (3). A wall (6) is configured on at least one longitudinal side of every row of compartments (4) and at least a part of its transversal sides (2) and projects beyond the upper edges of the partitions (3). The invention also relates to a method for preparing ice, which is characterized in that water (10) is filled into the tray (1) and allowed to freeze. Before allowing the water to freeze, the tray is swiveled from a tilted position in which the water (10) filled into the tray flows over the partitions (3) between the compartments (4) of the tray (1) at least across a partial width thereof and touches an area of the longitudinal wall (6) projecting beyond the upper edges of the partitions (3), into an upright position in which the water (10) level is below the upper edges of the partitions (3).
