[origin: WO2006081998A1] The invention relates to a device for determining the thickness, distance, and/or profile of spaced-apart areas of a transparent and/or diffuse object, especially for measuring distances in an eye. A scanning unit (2) comprising a scanning table (5) which is translationally movable in adequate guides is disposed in the reference beam path or measuring beam path of said position determining device that uses an interferometer array according to the Michelson principle in order to modify the path length, the direction of travel of the scanning table (5) enclosing an angle a relative to the reference beam (1). At least two reference mirrors (3, 4) which are located at a distance d from each other in the direction of the reference beam (1) while slightly overlapping in a lateral direction are arranged on the scanning table (5) such that the reference beam (1) is first reflected by the first reference mirror (3) and then by the second reference mirror (4) during the motor-driven oscillating movement of the scanning table (5).
