Abstract (en)

[origin: EP1847633A1] An aqueous metal surface-treating agent wherein an organic silicon compound which has, in one molecule, two or more of functional groups (a) represented by the formula -SiR 1 R 2 R 3 (wherein R 1 , R 2 and R 3 represent alkyl groups, alkoxyl groups or hydroxyl groups, and at least one of them is an alkoxyl group) and at least one hydrophilic functional group (b) selected from hydroxyl groups, amino groups, carboxyl groups, phosphoric acid groups, phosphonic acid groups, sulfonic acid groups, polyoxyethylene chains and amido groups, and has a molecular weight, per one functional group (b), of 100 to 10,000, is compounded; a surface-treating process; and a surface-treated metallic material. The treating agent can form a coating having not only excellent corrosion resistance and adhesion, but such heat resistance, weldability, continuous workability and electric conductivity as an inorganic coating has, and such fingerprint resistance and paint adhesion as an organic coating has.
