[origin: WO2006084582A1] The invention relates to a net which is knit from fringes (2, 2.1, 2.2, 26) and weft threads (3) and in which at least one fringe (2.1) is shorter than the other fringes (2) of the net in at least one peripheral area (24, 25) of the net (1). The invention further relates to a method for producing said net on a knitting machine. According to said method, loops that are shorter than in the other areas of the net are created in at least one peripheral area when the net is knit in order to form meshes from which the fringes are knit. Also disclosed is a knitting machine for producing a net, comprising a first guide bar (6) for feeding the weft threads, a second guide bar (7) for feeding the warps, a needle bar (13) with needles (10), and a take-down device (22). The needle (10) is placed higher than the other needles in at least one position on the needle bar (13) in which the peripheral area (24, 25) of the net is knit.
