[origin: DE202005011878U1] The device has an airbag folded in to a packet, a gas generator for filling the airbag, a generator body (30) that releases gas when the gas generator is ignited, an ignition device (32) and a protective casing (2) that encloses the airbag in a gas-tight fashion. The protective casing also encloses the generator body and has at least one opening (22) through which the ignition device protrudes out from the casing and that is sealed gas-tight by at least one sealing element (4).
