[origin: EP1852354A2] The present invention provides a method and apparatus for sorting and/or automatically packing vulnerable, elongate products (P) such as cucumbers, comprising the following steps of: - individualizing the products; - orienting the individualized products; - transporting the products in transport means (6); - transferring the products in an oriented position to at least one conveyor (10); and - releasing the products on the conveyor into at least one packing container (18) or a compartment (16) thereof, wherein the at least one packing container is placed in the transport means (30) outside the feed path of the products.
