A device for detecting objects in a sewing machine (1), where the object is illuminated, has color sensor(s) (25) for detecting color properties of the object (or colored markings on the object) in detection region(s). The sensor has at least one outlet for transmitting the detected color properties. Independent claims are included for: (1) a corresponding method for identifying illuminated objects in a sewing machine (1), in which the color characteristics detected by the color sensor (25) are compared with stored criteria and a magnitude indicating unambiguous reference to a particular object is generated if the measured value agrees with a stored value (within predetermined tolerances); and (2) a sewing machine object, releasably connectable or couplable to the machine and detectable by the above device, which has colored markings providing unambiguous reference to each object.

Die Vorrichtung und das Verfahren zum Erfassen von Objekten bei Nähmaschinen (1) nutzen einen oder mehrere Farbsensoren (25), um die Farben von Objekten oder von an den Objekten angebrachten Farbmarken (26) zu erfassen. Solche Farbmarken (26) benötigen nur wenig Platz und können selbst auf kleinen Teilen angebracht werden. In einem der Nähmaschinensteuerung (57) zugänglichen Speicher (59) sind eindeutige Zuordnungen von Farben und den zugehörigen Objekten gespeichert. Entsprechend der erkannten, an die Nähmaschine (1) angeschlossenen Objekte kann die Arbeitsweise der Nähmaschinensteuerung (57) angepasst werden.
