[origin: WO2006089438A1] The device (1) for the optical scanning of a yarn (9) comprises first optical scanning means (21, 3) for the optical scanning of the yarn (9) in a first spectral range and second optical scanning means (22, 3) for the optical scanning of the yarn (9) in a second spectral range, different to the first spectral range. The first (21, 3) and second (22, 3) optical scanning means are arranged in front of a background (4) which is reflective in the first spectral range but not in the second spectral range. The invention thus combines the advantage of scanning with a light and dark background (4). Light as well as dark foreign bodies in the yarn (9) can thus be reliably recognised and different foreign bodies differentiated from each other.
