[origin: WO2006097457A1] The invention relates to a device (1) for switching electric alternating current comprising an extinguishing contact assembly (2) for putting the device (1) under current and for extinguishing an electric arc occurring during switching off, a disconnection contact assembly in-series connected with respect to the extinguishing contact assembly (2) for providing a required dielectric strength and a drive for initiating a switching movement which is passed to the extinguishing contact assembly (2) by a drive kinematics (6,7,8,9,10,21). The aim of said invention is to develop a device having a simple structural design and devoid of the motion of mechanically sensitive parts. For this purpose, the drive kinematics has a an extinguishing curve profile (8) and a separation curve profile (17) arranged on at lest one cam disc (10,20) rotatably connected to the drive shaft (21) of said drive kinematics, wherein at least one contact of the extinguishing contact assembly (2) is mechanically coupled with an extinguishing contact pin (7) adjacent to the extinguishing curve profile (8) and at least one contact of the disconnection contact assembly (11) is mechanically coupled with a disconnection contact pin (16) adjacent to the separation curve profile (17)
