[origin: WO2006099932A1] The invention relates to ether alcohol-based surfactants having a reduced surface tension and use thereof as a surfactant in aqueous coating formulations. Said ether-alcohol can be produced by reacting at least one hydroxy compound according to formula (I) with at least one epoxide according to formula (II) and/or at least one epoxide according to formula (V) in essentially equivalent amounts of hydroxy and epoxide groups.
