[origin: US2008148786A1] A detergent dispensing unit containing a dispensing shell and at least one dispensing connection that permits the entry of fresh water, in addition to a siphon-type passage between the interior of the detergent dispensing unit and an opening that leads to the exterior. To prevent water vapor from escaping from the lye container of the washing machine into the interior of the housing, the siphon-type passage is positioned in the dispensing shell upstream of the opening that leads to the exterior, (an overflow), in such a way that the maximum filled level of the siphon-type passage lies below the lower edge of the overflow and that the siphon-type passage can be filled by liquid that is in the dispensing shell, in particular leaked water.
