The escalator comprises a number of steps or plates guided via rollers and idling rollers on respective rails. A distance sensor (24) is integrated in or on the rail (14), and detects the diameter offset of the rollers passing above. The distance sensor may be pressed by the rollers to essentially the height of the rail (14). A switch is connected as part of the safety circuit , for switching off the escalator if there are faulty rollers.

Die Erfindung betrifft eine Fahrtreppe oder einen Fahrsteig, mit einer Mehrzahl von Stufen oder Paletten, die über Laufrollen und Schlepprollen je auf Schienen geführt sind. Ein Abstandsfühler (24) ist in oder an der Schiene (14) integriert, der insbesondere die Durchmesserabweichung der darüberlaufenden Lauf- oder Schlepprolle erfasst.
