[origin: EP1862637A1] The device has a sealing block (15) arranged in the shaft (13) and connected to the supporting wall (12) in the starting and/or finishing region in a simple manner, whereby the tunnel boring machine (11) can pass through the sealing block. The sealing block consists of essentially of concrete or another suitable, preferably unreinforced material. An independent claim is also included for a method of starting and finishing a tunnel boring machine shield out of and/or into a starting/ finishing shaft clad with a supporting wall.
