[origin: WO2006103240A1] The invention relates to a method of identifying faces from face images, known as query images, which are associated with at least one person. One such identification method comprises a training phase using training images and a recognition phase, enabling faces that appear on query images to be identified. According to the invention, the training phase comprises at least one image-filtering step which is carried out using a group of at least two training face images which are associated with said at least one person, thereby enabling the selection of at least one training image that is representative of the face to be identified. The above-mentioned recognition phase uses only the training images selected during the training phase. One such image-filtering step is performed using at least one of the thresholds belonging to the group comprising: a maximum distance (DRC<SUB>max</SUB>) taking account of the membership of vectors that are associated with at least some of the aforementioned images to a cloud formed by said vectors; and a maximum distance (DO<SUB>max</SUB>) between the vectors and the reconstructed vectors after said vectors have been projected onto a space that is associated with the vector cloud.
