Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2006108407A1] The invention relates to a device for operating or starting a high-pressure discharge lamp (18), provided with an auxiliary starting electrode (181), whereby the device comprises a voltage-dependent switch means (16), for providing the starting voltage for the high-pressure discharge lamp (18) to the auxiliary starting electrode (181) and the switch threshold voltage of the voltage-dependent switch means (16) is greater tan or the same as the starting voltage of the high-pressure discharge lamp (18).

[origin: WO2006108407A1] The device has a voltage-dependent switching arrangement (16) for applying the ignition voltage for the high pressure discharge lamp (18) to the auxiliary ignition electrode (181). The switching threshold voltage of the voltage-dependent switching arrangement is greater than or equal to the ignition voltage of the high pressure discharge lamp. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a lamp socket for a high pressure discharge lamp (B) a lighting system (C) and a method of operating a high pressure discharge lamp.
