[origin: GB2425050A] A toothbrush comprising a head connected to a handle, a top part 2a of the head having bristles 1a and a bottom part 4a or side part (26e, fig.E4) of the head being connected to the handle, wherein a vibrating device 7 for vibrating the bristles is located within the head and fixed to the top part 2a of the head, and a flexible part 3a is provided between the bristled top part 2a of the head and the bottom part 4a or side part of the head to reduce the vibrations transmitted to the handle. The vibrating device 7 may be an electromechanical device such as a coin-type vibrating motor. The flexible part 3a, which may be elastomeric, allows relative movement between the top part 2a and the bottom part 4a or side part (26e, fig.E4). The motion generation mechanism is contained within the head with its energy being concentrated on the tufted part of the head and minimal vibration being transmitted to the handle.
