[origin: WO2006107913A2] A mobile sorting unit and method separates commingled material by both size and at least one other characteristic, such as mass. The unit may include a platform adapted for mobile transport and a sorting unit supported on the platform. The sorting unit includes an inlet hopper, an oversize separator station for separating oversized material from the commingled material, and an undersize separator station for separating undersize material from the commingled material. A mass separator station is adapted to receive the material exiting the undersize separator station outlet and direct light material toward a light material discharge area and heavy material toward a heavy material discharge area.
