[origin: EP1876062A2] The load carrier has a retaining carrier (7) adjustable between a resting position (Rs) and an operating position (Bs) and vice versa in a longitudinal direction of a passenger car. A switching device (16) is provided between a base carrier (6) and the retaining carrier. The switching device influences electrical consumers in dependence of the resting position and/or the operating position and/or an intermediate position (Zs) outside of the resting position and/or operating position.
