The calender for smoothing paper, cardboard/other fiber material web, comprises a pillar, two end rollers constructed as controlled deflection rolls having roller cover (10) controlled via a deflection control device on a support that is held fixed against rotation, and two intermediate rollers with roller stack movably arranged in stack plane. The rollers (2, 4, 5) are arranged on above the other. One of the movable intermediate rollers (5) is assigned to a pressing element (7) operating on its shaft ends/pins (15). The pressing element presses the intermediate roller (5) to an end roller. The intermediate roller (4) is arranged on the smooth slit. The determined end roller is arranged to the adjacent intermediate roller (4) and is formed by the lower end roller (2). All intermediate rollers posses pressing element. An independent claim is included for a procedure for driving a calender.

Die Erfindung betrifft einen Kalander zur Glättung einer Papier-, Karton- oder einer anderen Faserstoffbahn (1) mit einem Ständer (11) und wenigstens einem, zwei Endwalzen (2,3) und zumindest zwei Zwischenwalzen (4,5,6) aufweisenden Walzenstapel, wobei die Walzen (2,3,4,5,6) übereinander angeordnet sind, wenigstens eine Zwischenwalze (5) in der Stapelebene (13) verschiebbar gelagert ist und die Endwalzen (2,3) als Durchbiegungseinstellwalzen mit einem über eine Durchbiegungseinstelleinrichtung (9) auf einem drehfest gehaltenen Träger (14) abgestützten Walzenmantel (10) ausgebildet sind. Dabei soll das Anwendungsfeld des Kalanders dadurch erweitert werden, dass wenigstens einer der verschiebbaren Zwischenwalzen (5,6) auf deren Achsenden oder Zapfen (15) einwirkende Anpresselemente (7) zugeordnet sind, die die Zwischenwalze (5) zu einer Endwalze (2,3) hin drücken, wobei nur die, zwischen den, von Anpresselementen (7) beaufschlagten Zwischenwalzen (7) und einer bestimmten Endwalze (2,3) liegenden Glättspalte geschlossen sind.
