Abstract (en)

[origin: DE102005019385A1] The funnel (1) top opening (6) lies opposite the bottom opening (7). The latter transfers molten metal from the intervening feeder chamber (5) into the casting cavity of the mold. The novel feature is a filter element (9) in the upper part of the feeder chamber. The filter element is spaced from the top opening. It is made from pressed, extruded or foamed ceramic. The feeder chamber (5) tapers downwardly. The funnel is two-part, comprising a tubular first section (3) and a conical second section (4) accommodating the filter element. A cover (13) closes the top opening. It is a sheet. It is domed. A filling material is located between cover and filter element. The filter element includes a mounting (11) for a spring-loaded mandrel. The bottom opening includes a component capable of absorbing energy. It is a tubular bush (15) interference-fitted into the bottom opening and sliding in the feeder cavity. It is a bellows, supported against the bottom opening. It has a funnel or key-shaped casing end. A frangible core is provided in the bottom opening. An independent claim is included for the method of making a casting mold incorporating the casting funnel.
