Abstract (en)

[origin: EP1880861A1] The strip has an aluminum or aluminum alloy and some sections of strip includes a microcrystalline surface layer resulting from a hot or cold rolling passes. A two-dimensional microprobe analysis is carried out by a mapping method of a surface area of the microcrystalline surface. A surface fraction is provided that is less than 10 percent and preferably less than 7 percent with an intensity ratio greater than 3 in a spectral range of an X-ray emission spectrum of oxygen. An excitation voltage of 15 kilovolt, beam current of 50 nanoampere and beam cross-section of 1 micrometre are also used. An independent claim is also included for a method for characterizing a surface of a strip from aluminum or an aluminum alloy, involves accomplishing microprobe analysis of the micro-crystalline layer by a mapping method.
