[origin: WO2006131281A1] The invention relates to a fixed bed gasifier (1) functioning with a fixed bed that is penetrated by air and/or vapor in a countercurrent. In comparison to the resulting pyrolysis coke, the actual pyrolysis zone is so thin that the material dwell time in said pyrolysis zone is only a few minutes while the dwell time of the pyrolysis coke in the pyrolysis coke layer can last for several hours. The pyrolysis is carried out allothermically, whereby a highly energetic, low-dust and low-tar gas is obtained. Process control can be reliably automatised. The reaction and pyrolysis gases are escaped through the heating chamber (3), thereby eliminating the last tar components.
