Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2006131008A1] The invention relates to a sensor for measuring the water or moisture content in a solid substance medium, particularly a soil moisture sensor, and to a device for use with a sensor for improving the accuracy thereof. The sensor or at least the area of the sensor designed for measuring is surrounded by an interface, which is designed for taking up and releasing moisture and is mechanically flexible whereby enabling the interface to adapt to an inconstant or unclearly defined surface of the solid substance medium, e.g. the soil, surrounding the sensor. As a result, the contact surface between the sensor and medium is optimized, and air gaps, indentations by stones, etc. are compensated for or bypassed. The interface is preferably comprised of a felt made of synthetic fibers and can be removeably placed over a sensor or sensor head.
