[origin: WO2006125820A2] The invention relates to a method for localising and rescuing persons in danger, of application within a mobile radio structure, such that the range thereof is theoretically unlimited. The invention is characterised in that a coarse positioning can be achieved by analysis of the field strengths received from the emergency call sender at the mobile radio base station to give the approximate position, combined with a subsequent more precise positioning by means of a short-range tracker device. The tracking device can thus be part of a SIM card, such that the tracker device transmitter is not visible to an observer and the above can also function with the mobile radio device switched off. A further embodiment has a SIM toolkit on the SIM card, which alters the software of the mobile phone or itself provides an operating programme. Programmes for public or discrete coarse positioning and/or for activating the tracker device can thus be run on commercially-available mobile telephones.
