Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2006128751A1] The invention relates to a common rail injector having an injector housing (1) which has a fuel supply line (26) which is connected to a central high pressure fuel source (28) outside the injector housing and to a pressure space (17) inside the injector housing (1), highly pressurized fuel from said pressure space (17) being injected, as a function of the pressure in a first coupling space (41), into a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine when a nozzle needle (8) lifts up from its seat, the first coupling space (41) being delimited by that end of the nozzle needle (8) which is remote from the combustion chamber and by that end, which is close to the combustion chamber, of an actuator (30), in particular a piezoelectric actuator, or of a coupler piston (32) attached to that end of the actuator which is close to the combustion chamber. In order to allow a simple reversal of the direction of action of the actuator, the injector comprises a second coupling space (44) which is connected to the first coupling space (41) and is delimited by a nozzle needle pressure face (45) which faces away from the actuator.
